Righteous and merciful God, we confess that we have not lived as your faithful children. We have been angry with the world and nursed grudges against those who disagree with us. We have hoarded what we have rather than share what we have with others. We have not built up our neighbors with words of kindness but have indulged in destructive gossip. We have not forgiven others, even though we want your forgiveness. For these and every way we sin against you, we ask your forgiveness.

Let us put away bitterness, wrath, anger, wrangling and slander, together with all malice, and be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, as God in Christ has forgiven us. Hear and believe the good news of the gospel: in Jesus Christ we are forgiven. Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Lord, open our hearts and minds by the power of your Holy Spirit, that as the Scriptures are read and your Word is proclaimed, we may hear with joy what you say to us today. Amen
